stoplivinginthepast.com offers the greatest Wordpress plug-in installed on this site... so far this year.

So I happened to be reading a nice article on the jankoatwarpspeed website about the growing ground swell within the development community to completely ditch/destroy/deadify IE6… One of the resources sited to help was a great little website – stoplivinginthepast.com which offers the greatest WordPress plug-in installed on this site… so far this year.

With a quick upload and one-click Activate… IE6 users are now subject to a very obvious, and very large reminder as to why they need (and should want to) upgrade to a more stable, secure and more advanced browser.

Undoubtedly, if you’ve stopped by nicoleandgreg.net using IE6 you’d think we have the worst design taste. The site simply looks atrocious in IE6. No support for PNG-24 gradients at all. There is absolutely NO good reason to continue to use that POS browser. Its like… EIGHT YEARS OLD forcrissakes!

So sorry Dad… but I told you to upgrade.

Upgrade news for WordPress. The trials and tribulations of a site... just trying to grow.

Damn, its good to see people up on it.

Moving ever forward, the fine folks at WordPress have updated the self-publishing suite. Anxious to stay current, I attempted to upgrade throught the newly introduced “automatic upgrade” feature from directly within the dashboard. Should be simple right… FAIL.

Seems the pclziputilpathreduction() that was “redeclared” in another plugin was causing a major problem.Oh well, I just download the new package. I had planned on installing it manually but I remembered the BlueHost SimpleScripts installation had been a breeze. After both backing up the database and exporting the site to XML… I decided to go ahead and try the SimpleScripts automatic upgrade. I mean… its on the cPanel so it has to work… right?

BINGO! Much respect to SimpleScripts. Got it right the very first time.

So in planning this post and what to write… I had to make sure i’d reference the correct error message. In order to do so, I simply picked a new popular plugin to install so I knew I’d get the error… And I did. That’s when I noticed that the “redeclare” was occuring in one specifc plugin. Every time.

What plugin… why, its the old WordPress Automatic Upgrade plugin that millions of WP users have used to stay current prior to the latest 2.7 release.Someone might want to tell Alanis that THIS… this, is the very definition of irony. Not, as some might have you believe, like raaii-e-ain on your wedding day.

In any event, I deactivated that one plugin and suddenly the Google XML Sitemaps plugin took care of itself. Sweet. BTW… that google xml sitemaps is the frickin’ balls. for real. Happy smiley green balls of all kinds of goodness. Wurd.

It only took 36 hours, but we've managed to at least get back on our feet here. Switched hosts and forgot some stuff. Left behind the unnecessary. And came out with a fast experience all around.

I've been coding for almost 18 hours now... but I'm too excited with this new host. Things should really start to get moving here. Be sure to check out all the Beer reviews and recipes we have here @ nicoleandgreg.net

I’m sitting here, drinking a Lakeside Brewing “Eastside Dark.”

It’s been a little over 36 hours since I started the process to move nicoleandgreg.net from my previous [unnamed shitty host] to my new hosting provider… BlueHost.com! They were recommended by my good friend and coworker, Bobby Burdette of WVMountaineerSports.com fame. I’ve neer actually been to that site, but I hear its great. He tells me it has something to do with WVU…I tune it out.

Anyway, he suggested I move from my old host after listening to me bitch continually about all sorts of probelms I’ve had getting simple WP stuff to work. Since he was the person who introduced me to WordPress (WP) – I figured he might know a thing or two.

So here we are, only 36 hours removed and I’ve managed to get all my old posts moved over and all the plugins installed. I’ve still got some work to do with the SIFR titles and the RSS feeds… but I think its ready to at least drop the curtain on the next chapter. I has hoped to write some new beer reviews this weekend but I think I might be tied up with work. The Bank keeps me pretty busy these days.

If you find any errors or really, really strange stuff… leave a comment below and I’ll get right on it. Not that I imagine anyone is actually reading this…

some problems persist, but overall - a rather successful relaunch.

the site is up. the posts are yet to come. i’m finding myself more concerned with getting evert ‘t’ crossed and evey ‘i’ dotted as it were. the permalinks structure is still not functioning the way it should.

the “what we got” category navigation is a piece i’d like to put on all pages, posts, etc… but it seems pasting the code in from the main page to those subpages is causing the comments section to disappear altogether.

weird

but enough site work for now. i’ve got to get moving outside. shovel the snow off the driveway. maybe go get soem salt from Home Depot and pick up some jersey mike’s for lunch.

i’m out for now.
